SAN JOSE -- Eighteen people were displaced after a three-alarm fire swept through a four-unit townhouse in the city's south side early Thursday morning, according to the fire department.
The townhouse is at 164 Chynoweth Ave., near Oak Grove High School. One of the units was destroyed and two others badly damaged, according to the fire department.
Capt. Reggie Williams said at about 12:18 a.m., residents heard the fire, looked outside the fire, which started in or near the carports. They called 911.
All of the residents, including eight children, got out safely. The fire department reported no injuries.
Two vehicles were also destroyed by the fire, which was under control at 1:16 a.m.
Williams said the fire is under investigation, with no immediate known cause.
The American Red Cross Silicon Valley is helping the displaced residents.
