NORTH RICHMOND -- A 38-year-old man died several hours after he was shot in North Richmond Thursday night, authorities said.

The man, who police are not yet identifying, was wounded multiple times in a drive-by shooting about 10:30 p.m. on the 1600 block of 4th Street, Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office spokesman Jimmy Lee said.

Arriving sheriff deputies performed first aid on the man until firefighters and an ambulance arrived, Lee said. The man was taken to Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo and later flown by helicopter to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. He was pronounced dead at 3:14 a.m.

Authorities said it appears gunfire also struck a nearby home and car, though no one else was hurt. Investigators have not identified a motive or suspects in the homicide. The homicide is North Richmond's first in 2014.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Investigation Division at 925-313-2600, email tips@so.cccounty.us or call 866-846-3592 to leave an anonymous voice message.
