OAKLAND -- A woman was shot Friday morning while in a car stopped at an East Oakland gas station, police said.

The 22-year-old woman, whose name was not released, was driven to a hospital by her boyfriend, who was also in the car and may have been the intended target, police said. He did not stay at the hospital to talk to police.

The shooting happened about 5:45 a.m. at a gas station in the 3200 block of 35th Avenue, close to the Laurel district.

Police were not notified of the shooting until after the woman was dropped off at the hospital. She was in stable condition and is expected to recover.

Police recovered several shell casings at the gas station. No one else reported being wounded by the gunfire.

A motive for the shooting was not known and no arrests have been made.
