SAN MATEO -- A Pleasanton man was arrested Sunday after beating a San Bruno man with a sledgehammer and stealing his car in San Mateo, officials said.
Aaron Hanna, 26, is accused of hitting a 30-year-old acquaintance over the head with a sledgehammer as he was tending to his overheated car, San Mateo police spokesman Dave Norris said. The victim, who had been driving Hanna around, suffered an injury that was not life-threatening at about 3 p.m. in the parking lot of a Chevron gas station.
Hanna jumped in the black Honda Accord and drove away from the injured man in the 800 block of N. Delaware Street, Norris said. He was found with the vehicle about 5:30 p.m. in the area of San Bruno Avenue West and Skyline Boulevard in San Bruno.
Hanna was booked into San Mateo County Jail on charges of carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon and auto theft, Norris said. The victim was treated for his injuries and released.
