BELMONT -- Police are searching for two suspects who evaded officers Tuesday after burglarizing a Belmont home, authorities said.

Officers responded about 11:20 a.m. to the 2500 block of Hallmark Dr. after a 911 caller reported seeing a man jump over the fence from a neighbor's yard. When police arrived at the home from which the suspect left, they discovered it had been burglarized.

An officer spotted the suspect, described as a Hispanic man with a shaved head, a gray sweatshirt and gray pants, in the 2500 block of Carlmont Drive as he ran east into a wooded area, Capt. Pat Halleran said. Belmont and San Mateo County authorities enlisted a police dog and a helicopter to search for the suspect, and schools in the immediate area were locked down for about 30 minutes.

A possible second suspect, described only as an Asian man with braided hair, was spotted by witnesses running behind an apartment building in the 2500 block of Carlmont Dr., Halleran said. Neither of the men had been located by police as of 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to contact Belmont Police at 650-595-7400 or the Belmont Police Crime Tip Line at 650-598-3000. Anyone who may have security camera video relating to the crime is urged to call, authorities said.
