PHOENIX -- Catcher Derek Norris was scratched from Friday's A's lineup against the Arizona Diamondbacks because of back pain.

And infielder Alberto Callaspo, while still in the lineup, was being monitored by the medical crew for back pain of his own.

Norris, who is hitting .273 with a double and a homer this spring, has been battling back pain for a couple of days.

``He's got a back issue, spasms,'' manager Bob Melvin said. ``And potentially not tomorrow, either.''

As for Callaspo, hitting .231 this spring, it was going to be a game time decision.

``We'll see how he does in pregame stuff,'' Melvin said. ``For right now, he's in there.''
