OAKLAND -- A person was killed in a traffic collision on north Interstate 880 on Sunday afternoon, said a spokesman from the California Highway Patrol.
The name, gender, age and city of residence of the person was not released. Another person was injured in the two-vehicle crash at 3:12 p.m., north of Hegenberger Road and just south of the Oakland Coliseum, the CHP spokesman said.
The condition of the person injured was not immediately available Sunday evening.
A traffic alert was issued at 3:33 p.m. and the two far left lanes on the freeway remained closed into Sunday evening.
The CHP is investigating reports that one motorist tried to leave the scene on foot following the crash. No arrests had been made Sunday evening. The collision remains under investigation.
