About 1,100 budding scientists exhibited projects at the 54th Santa Clara Valley Science and Engineering Fair on Wednesday.

Held at the San Jose Convention Center, the fair, known as the Synopsys Championship, included projects of students in sixth through 12th grades from throughout Santa Clara County.

Hundreds of volunteer judges reviewed the projects and selected nearly 100 which will be eligible to enter the state science faion April 28 and 29 at the California Science Center in Los Angeles. Judges also selected 10 grand prize winners who will continue to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.

County fair winners will be honored in a ceremony April 6.
