Meet one of our favorite artists from the 2014 South by Southwest music conference and festival in Austin, Texas.
SXSW Spotlight Artist Ume City: Austin, Texas Website: http://monuments.umemusic.com/ Local shows: 8 p.m. April 1; Rickshaw Stop, S.F.; $10-$12, www.ticketfly.com Key cuts: "Rubicon," "Black Stone" The skinny: Not all of SXSW's buzz bands hailed from out of town. At least one of the more heavily hyped acts was a hometown product. Austin's own Ume has definitely entered into "band to watch" territory, with many expecting it to skyrocket in popularity this year. The hard-hitting alt-rock trio -- consisting of vocalist-guitarist Lauren Larson, drummer Rachel Fuhrer and bassist Eric Larson -- is getting a ton of attention for its recently released sophomore effort, "Monuments. Yet, the best way to experience Ume is onstage, where it draws strong comparisons to such powerhouses as The Joy Formidable and Silversun Pickups.
