SANTA CLARA -- A driver accidentally crashed through the glass front doors of the Salvation Army Thrift Store off El Camino Real on Friday afternoon, making a mess of the entrance but causing only one minor injury, according to police.

Police and emergency personnel were summoned to the store at 1494 Halford Ave. around 3 p.m. on reports of a car ramming into a building. They found a sedan had smashed into the storefront, and the driver told them it was an accident that happened because of a foot slip, police said.

One person inside the store suffered a minor injury caused by merchandise that was knocked over, police said. The driver was not detained and will not face charges.

"It is being treated as a traffic accident," Santa Clara police spokesman Lt. Kurt Clarke said.

Salvation Army employees declined to comment, although one said "staff is really upset" by the crash. They did not expect the store to reopen until next week.
