Tonight's terrifyingly dark episode of "The Walking Dead," titled, "The Grove," delivered one huge confession and two horrible losses.

And through it all, a strong-willed Carol continues to take the kind of action she believes she needs to take.

Tonight, she finally admitted to Tyreese that she was the one responsible for killing his girlfriend, Karen, as well as David, back at the prison. She did it in order to prevent the deadly infection from spreading. And in a heartbreaking scene, Tyreese, with his hand poised on a pistol, decides to forgive her.

"I forgive you," he says. "I'm never going to forget ... It's a part of you now. Me too. But I forgive you."

Tyreese's reaction was influenced by prior events. Earlier in the episode, penned by showrunner Scott Gimple, he, Carol and the girls happened upon an abandoned house that seemed like the perfect place to hang out in harmony for a while. Terminus could wait. Everyone seemed happy. They gathered pecans together, did puzzles together and shared jokes about the difference between beer nuts and deer nuts.

But we all know that, on this show, no one is happy for long. And tonight, we sadly learned just how twisted and screwed up in the head poor Lizzie is. It turns out that she was the one feeding rats to the walkers back at the prison (Did you suspect her?). And she really has no problem with zombies. In fact, she thinks they're greatly misunderstood creatures who are just a little "different." Instead of stabbing them and blowing them away, we should be trying to find ways to communicate with them.

At one point Lizzie is even seen "playing" with a female zombie, running circles around it out in the yard. And when Carol shoots it, Lizzie goes ballistic.

"She was my friend!" the girl protests.

At this point, everyone should have realized that they have a huge problem on their hands. But no one is aware just how dangerous Lizzie can be to the rest of the group.

That all changes when Tyreese and Carol return from a walk in the woods to find Lizzie, all covered in blood, holding a knife in her hand. She has killed her little sister, Mica! Apparently, in her warped mind, it's a just bizarre experiment to show everyone that Mica will be just fine once she turns into a zombie.

"Don't worry. She'll come back," Lizzie says, explaining that she didn't put a bullet in Mica's brain. "Judith can change, too."

This causes Carol to cry and Tyreese to think that, maybe it was Lizzie who killed Karen and David. They conclude that Lizzie just can't be around people, especially baby Judith. Carol suggests that maybe she could leave the group with Lizzie.

But plans change. Carol takes Lizzie for a walk out in the woods. Lizzie senses Carol is mad at her. "I'm sorry," she cries.

But Carol tries to comfort the girl and tells her to "just look at the flowers." And then, a tearful Carol, knowing that Lizzie is beyond salvation, pulls a pistol from her pocket and puts the girl down like a rabid dog.

Has this show ever given us a more shocking scene?

It will take a while to get over this one.
