FREMONT -- A 31-year-old woman has been arrested after her 4-year-old daughter died from injuries sustained in a car crash earlier this month, police said Thursday.

Patricia Serratos, of Fremont, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and child endangerment. She could face more charges if a toxicology test shows she was drunk during the March 3 crash, according to Fremont police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques.

Police say Serratos drove on the wrong side of Osgood Road and crashed her 2002 Honda Civic into a 2000 Toyota Camry at around 12:14 a.m. The head-on crash left both Serratos and her 4-year-old daughter with major injuries. The girl died at a hospital on March 8.

Investigators said the girl was in a child car seat, but Serratos did not secure the seat. Fremont police are also waiting for results from a toxicology report to determine if Serratos was driving impaired.

The 31-year-old driver of the Camry suffered minor injuries. Police suspect he may also have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Serratos has been booked into custody at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.
