OAKLAND -- Officers are investigating a shooting that happened just minutes after a stabbing was reported blocks away and are trying to determine if the two crimes were related.

Shortly after 10 a.m., a woman was stabbed near 19th and West streets, and the suspect was gone before police arrived.

About 10 minutes later, the department received several calls of gunfire in the area of 23rd Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Way. When officers arrived there, they found a wounded man face down in the street.

Both the man and the woman were said to be hospitalized in stable condition.
