RICHMOND -- A man was shot multiple times in Richmond Monday evening, police said.

The city's gunfire detection system recorded multiple gunshots on the 2500 block of Maine Avenue at 9:13 p.m., Richmond police Lt. Andre Hill said. Responding officers found a man on the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

The man was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek in critical condition, Hill said. As of late Monday, police had made no arrests and were investigating the shooting.

The bloodshed follows two homicides that occurred within 24 hours last week. On Thursday night, 43-year-old Tammi Baker was shot and killed at S. Fourth Street and Florida Avenue. Then late Friday, 24-year-old Clarence Wesley Celestine Jr. was shot at S. 35th Street and Wall Avenue and taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Police continue to investigate the homicides, where were the first and second for Richmond this year.
