OAKLAND -- A man killed in a drive-by shooting Friday evening outside a North Oakland liquor store was identified by police Saturday as Shamarr D. Owens, 27, of Emeryville.

A 24-year-old Emeryville man who was also wounded in the shooting was in critical but stable condition and he is expected to recover. His name was not released. Police said the two men were friends.

The shooting occurred about 5:30 p.m. Friday in the 900 block of 43rd Street outside a liquor store, Officer Jason Andersen said. The men were inside a car when an occupant from another vehicle began shooting at them, police said.

Owens and his friend were hit several times. They were able to drive to a hospital, where Owens died at 5:55 p.m.

The car from where the shots were fired drove off.

Andersen said police don't have a motive for the shooting and no arrests have been made.

The killing was Oakland's 23rd homicide of the year. Last year at this time, there were 19 homicides in the city.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $15,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the killer.

Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.

In an unrelated shooting later Friday, a 47-year-old man was wounded in the eye while he drove his truck through a West Oakland intersection where two groups were shooting at each other.

The shooting happened at 9:38 p.m. Friday at the intersection of 19th and West streets.

The groups doing the shooting fled before police arrived. Police suspect the shooting could have been drug- or gang-related and the man wounded was not an intended target. The bullet that hit him came through his windshield, police said.

The wounded man, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition. No one else was reported injured.

Up to $5,000 in reward money is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the gunmen in that case. Those with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
