FREMONT -- Fire heavily damaged a Victorian home in Fremont on Monday, authorities said.
The fire destroyed about 70 percent of the one-story home at 38569 Overacker Ave., with damages estimated at $300,000 to the structure and $100,000 to contents inside, said fire Capt. Diane Hendry.
The blaze broke out at 3:24 p.m. inside a bedroom and spread to the attic, Hendry said. It took firefighters about 40 minutes to extinguish the flames. Multiple residents who were home at the time were not injured.
The cause of the fire is not yet known. City code enforcement officers were called in to investigate if several construction modifications were completed in compliance with city law.
