OAKLAND -- A man was killed early Wednesday when he was struck while walking along Interstate 880 after being involved in a crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP initially received calls around 12:10 a.m. of a Toyota Tacoma along the side of the road between the High Street and the 66th Avenue exits. The car had supposedly spun out, and was struck by another car shortly after the initial crash.
After that collision, a man inside the truck was walking southbound along the shoulder when he was struck by a 2012 Dodge Charger. He was declared dead at the scene by paramedics and later identified by the Alameda County Coroner's Office as Joshua Tessman, 26, of Fremont.
The fatal collision closed lanes for hours, and the driver of the Dodge remained on scene with investigators. Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors in the collision, according to the CHP.
A traffic advisory was issued around 12:40 a.m. and at one point, three lanes were blocked. All lanes were reopened by 1:50 a.m.
