OAKLAND -- One man died and another was wounded Tuesday night after they were shot while driving in East Oakland, police said.

The man killed was identified by police Wednesday as Ralph Quarels, 21, of Oakland. The name and age of the man with him was not released.

Police said the men were shot about 10:55 p.m. Tuesday as they were driving in a rental car in the 5900 block of Bromley Avenue near Seminary Avenue.

Police would not say who was driving and did not know where the men were going.

The men were able to drive to the 1700 block of 65th Avenue a few blocks away where police and paramedics were called.

Quarels was pronounced dead at the scene and the other man was taken to a hospital where he was in stable condition Wednesday.

Officer Brad Baker said police don't have a motive yet for the shooting and no arrests have been made.

The killing was Oakland's 25th homicide of the year. Last year at this time there were 23 homicides in the city.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $15,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the gunman. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
