FREMONT -- A Tri-City organization that gives car rides to cancer patients is fueled by community volunteers and automobiles.

Both factors will be on display next month at two charity events benefiting Drivers for Survivors, a Fremont nonprofit group providing transportation and companionship to patients receiving lifesaving medical treatment.

The first fundraiser, Cruisin' for a Cause, will be a custom car show from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 3. It will take place at the Fremont Family Resource Center, 39155 Liberty St., near Capitol Avenue. Admission is on a sliding scale, with visitors asked to pay what they can afford, said co-organizer Sharene Gonzales.

It is being sponsored by Leadership Fremont, a Chamber of Commerce program that each year develops a community service project.

The second fundraiser is a gala slated 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at a private residence in Fremont's Mission Hills neighborhood.

Admission to the event, which will feature cocktails, dinner and dancing, is $100 per person. For gala tickets or more information, go online at www.driversforsurvivors.org or call 510-579-0535.
