OAKLAND -- An Oakland man was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison Friday for killing a thief who took his brother's truck in 2012.

Rolando Castellanos, 31, was convicted of second-degree murder in December and his brother Mario Castellanos is still wanted on a murder warrant in connection with the Feb. 19, 2012 fatal shooting of 30-year-old Oakland resident Hector Ramirez on C Street in East Oakland.

Authorities say that after Ramirez stole Mario Castellanos' truck outside the brothers' home that night, they armed themselves and tracked Ramirez and the vehicle down in the neighborhood. Rolando Castellanos shot Ramirez twice in the back with a .22-gauge rifle, and his brother shot him twice in the front with a shotgun.

Rolando Castellanos testified at his trial that he acted in self-defense.
