HAYWARD -- A teen found dead last week in the stairwell of a Hayward apartment complex was identified as a 16-year-old Hayward boy, police said Tuesday.

Jose Dejesus Rodriguez was found shortly after 1:30 a.m. April 3 by neighbors who live on the 27000 block of Manon Avenue, according to information from police and the Alameda County Coroner's Office.

His name and age were not released until Tuesday because police said they were not able to contact his parents until Monday night.

Rodriguez, who attended Tennyson High School, was found laying at the bottom of a stairwell in the complex where he lived, Sgt. Mark Ormsby said. The cause of the boy's death was not immediately known.

Although he had no visible injuries and no scuffle was heard, police said they were treating the death as suspicious.

An autopsy took place Friday, although it will take up to three months for a toxicology report to be complete.
