OAKLAND -- Arson investigators have released video surveillance of a man they say is a person of interest in a suspicious fire that started April 4 outside a UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital administration building in North Oakland.
Investigators want to identify and locate the man to interview him to see what information he can provide about the fire.
The fire erupted just after 2 a.m. April 4 outside the rear of the building at 670 53rd St., and spread inside and up into the attic. It took firefighters 15 minutes to control the blaze and damage was estimated at $150,000.
Investigators said the video, provided by the hospital, shows the man walking in the area of the fire moments before it starts. Investigators have not said how the fire started.
The man is described as white, 30 to 40, and average build. He is partially bald but does have dark curly hair. He was wearing a checker pattern shirt and was carrying a large soft drink cup.
Anyone with information about the man is asked to call 510-238-4031.
