SAN FRANCISCO -- Police are searching for a suspect they say dragged a San Francisco police officer in the Castro District while trying to evade him in a getaway car.

Officers responded about 12:35 p.m. to a suspicious person report in the 500 block of Castro Street, Officer Danielle Newman said. When they located the suspect, the person ran¿ and got into a car at 18th and Castro streets.

According to Newman, the officer chasing the suspect was dragged by the getaway car while they were trying to escape. The officer declined medical treatment at the scene, and the suspect got away in the car.

Officers were still searching for the suspect and vehicle as of 2 p.m., and police did not immediately release a description of either. It was not immediately known whether the getaway car was the suspect's vehicle, or whether it had been reported stolen.
