SAN JOSE -- Investigators are working to pinpoint the person who left a man bound, bloodied, and dying in a parking lot near Monterey Road early Tuesday, police said.

A passer-by made a chilling discovery around 8 a.m. Tuesday in the back lot of a series of warehouses in the 1900 block of Monterey Road, just north of the Plant shopping center. There lay a man in his 40s clad only in boxer shorts, bound at the wrists with what appeared to be plastic zip ties.

His face showed bruising, but police have not identified a cause of death, though there were no immediate signs that weapons were involved.

Police said it appears that the man was at the site where for some time before he was found. His identity has not been released pending notification of relatives.

The death marked the city's 12th homicide of the year. At the same time last year, San Jose had recorded 13 homicides.
