RICHMOND -- A 38-year-old transient found dead near train tracks in Richmond on Monday possibly jumped or fell from a train he was hitching a ride on, a railway spokeswoman said.
Investigators are not yet exactly sure how Chris Chisholm ended up near the tracks by Morton Avenue, not far from Richmond Parkway. No trains reported hitting anyone, and before his body was found a passenger on a Bakersfield-bound Amtrak train reported seeing someone hanging on the back of the train jump off, officials said.
The passenger's claim has not yet been verified, said Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham. Another Oakland-bound train stopped after someone spotted the man's body around 7:30 p.m., Graham said.
The death remains under investigation.
