MOUNTAIN VIEW -- Authorities warned residents in the area of Rengstorff Park to stay indoors after a mountain lion was reportedly seen in the area Tuesday evening.

The sighting was reported around 6:30 p.m. on the 200 block of Rengstorff Avenue, and police set up a perimeter in the area to search for the cougar. It was seen with "a radio-type collar around its neck," according to Mountain View police.

"Perimeter set, stay inside, call 911 if seen," police advised on Twitter and in an email alert. "Do not approach."

Police were evacuating the area around Rengstorff Park as a precaution.
