SAN PABLO -- A San Pablo man died Saturday night when he was hit by gunfire in a drive-by shooting, police said.
Police were alerted by a shot spotter and several emergency calls from residents after bullets were sprayed from a dark-colored, newer SUV in the 1300 block of Stanton Avenue about 9:20 p.m., San Pablo police Cmdr. Jeff Palmieri said.
In the aftermath, 20-year-old Michael Kelly was found on the ground just outside a residence, Palmieri said. Kelly did not live at the home, he said. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.
Detectives have not determined a motive for the shooting, nor have they identified any suspects, Palmieri said. The SUV left the scene immediately after the shooting. An autopsy scheduled for later Monday was expected to determined how many times Kelly was shot.
The homicide is the fourth of the year in the city of San Pablo and first since 25-year-old Homar Illan, of Hercules, was shot fatally in the 1800 block of Powell Street about 11 p.m. March 29.
