OAKLAND -- The Alameda County coroner's office has identified two people killed early Sunday when their car flipped into trees behind Mills College in East Oakland.
Duwan Palmer, 21, of Emeryville, and Kenisha Lewis, 28, whose address was not known, both died at Highland Hospital after the 2:30 a.m. crash near the corner of Seminary and Outlook avenues, a coroner's office spokesman said Monday.
Palmer was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after the crash, and Lewis died a short time later.
Three other people were injured in the crash, Oakland Fire Department Battalion Chief Emon Usher said. Palmer was sitting in the car's back seat, and Lewis was in the front passenger seat.
After the crash, the driver, an unidentified 25-year-old woman, walked about a half-mile to the other side of the Mills College campus and tried to get a ride at 55th Avenue and Macarthur Boulevard. A group of students called campus security, and she was taken to the hospital to be treated for her injuries.
The Fire Department extricated four people from the car within about 15 minutes, Usher said.
Palmer and Lewis were taken to Highland Hospital; the three other victims were taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley.
