Chester Farrow's life has been filled with two of my all-time favorite things:

Live music and the Oakland A's.

And I list those in no particular order.

The Walnut Creek native was hired to work the scoreboard for the mighty Green and Gold way back in 1969. He's been getting paid to watch the A's ever since.

He also taught broadcast media courses at Monte Vista High School in Danville for over three decades. Before retiring in 1999, Farrow produced many concerts at the school's theater -- featuring such local talents as Huey Lewis, Journey, Greg Kihn and Joe Satriani.

Once a year, Farrow joins with some of his former pupils to mount a concert -- dubbed the Rock and Rock Recital.

The 16th annual Recital is set for May 22 at the Village Theatre in Danville. The concert is a showcase for over 40 local guitar students, all under the tutelage of Danville musician Bruce Hock.

"This is such a thrill for the guitar students -- when will they ever have a chance to perform on a big stage?" Farrow says. "The energy is very high and audiences love the show. The music is great."

Show time is 7 p.m. and tickets are $10, www.villagetheatreshows.com. The event will also be Webcast live and for free at www.rockandrollrecital.com.
