SANTA CRUZ -- A 20-year-old San Jose woman was shot in the shoulder Monday night while walking with friends in the Beach Flats neighborhood.
The shooting occurred while the victim and three others between the ages of 14 and 20 were walking near the San Lorenzo River Levee at Third Street and Riverside Avenue around 7:45 p.m., according to a release from Santa Cruz police. Lt. Dan Flippo said the woman reportedly was shot while fleeing from two men walking on the levee.
The men allegedly called out to the group, making hand gestures toward them. Then one of the suspects began to shoot at the group, Flippo said. No one else was injured in the shooting, and the female victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Santa Clara County.
