MARTINEZ -- Two auto tech students from Alhambra High School will represent California in a national AAA/Ford Auto Skills Competition next month in Dearborn, Mich., after winning a state competition.
Sanveer Garcha and Alfredo Gutierrez, who are interns at Walnut Creek Honda and Concord BMW. took first place May 9 in the Northern California competition at the Blackhawk Auto Museum. They repaired 10 problems in a car in less than 90 minutes, earning the highest score statewide. The national contest will take place June 8-10 at the Ford Motor Company headquarters and will include a written test, auto diagnosis and repairs.
The pair will receive expense-paid trips to the national finals, along with scholarship opportunities and prizes. Las Lomas High School students Miles Millan and Sam Thomas-Saindon placed second in the Northern California competition, which tested skills taught in Career Technical Education and Regional Occupational Program classes.
