OAKLAND -- A 16-year-old boy was arrested Thursday morning on suspicion of robbing and carjacking two men in the city's Chinatown district.
At least one other suspect was being sought in the case, police said.
The incident began at Sixth and Alice streets at 10:23 a.m., when two men were confronted by as many as three suspects, including one who took one of the men's wallets by force and then drove off in their 2004 Honda Accord.
Because of prior robberies, when suspects have fled to the area of the 1800 block of Linden Street in West Oakland, police went to that area and saw the Honda had crashed into a retaining wall in the 1700 block of Linden. Two people fled from the vehicle.
Neighboring streets were shut down, and officers responded to the area. A helicopter from the California Highway Patrol also assisted in the search.
Just before noon, the 16-year-old was arrested after officers found him hiding in a yard behind a house in the 1600 block of Linden. The boy, police said, had the victim's wallet.
Police believe the suspects might be responsible for similar robberies in the city.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call police at 510-238-3455 or 510-238-3326.
