Paul McCartney has been admitted to a Tokyo hospital, according to Japanese media.

McCartney, 71, is suffering from a viral infection, reported the The Sankei Sports newspaper in Japan. The former Beatle's reps aren't commenting on the report.

News broke Wednesday that illness forced McCartney to cancel the rest of his Japanese tour. Last weekend, his website said doctors ordered "complete rest."

"Unfortunately my condition has not improved overnight. I was really hoping that I'd be feeling better today. I'm so disappointed and sorry to be letting my fans down," said a message, attributed to McCartney.

Another upcoming show in Seoul was postponed Wednesday. The announcement was accompanied by a statement from McCartney.

"I was really looking forward to visiting and playing in South Korea for the first time and I'm sorry to be letting fans down. I'm very disappointed by this and hope to be able to visit soon."
