ALAMEDA -- Ashley Bottomley pitched a complete-game and got out of jam late as the Terra Linda High softball team advanced to the North Coast Section Division III championship game with a 5-3 win over No. 1-seed Encinal on Wednesday at Lower Washington Park.
The No. 5 Trojans (15-9) will play Marin Catholic Athletic League foe and No. 6 Tamalpais in the finals on Saturday at San Marin High at 7 p.m.
For the Jets, the loss ends a season in which they won an NCS playoff game for the first time in school history.
"The school has never been known for softball in the past and it was great to see these girls go out and have this kind of year," Encinal coach Roni Miller said. "I couldn't be more proud of this team."
Encinal pitcher Samantha Williams overcame a rough start as Terra Linda scored a run in the first and three more in the third to take a 4-1 lead. Williams allowed just two hits in the last four innings and finished with three strikeouts. She also went 2 for 3 at the plate and reached base all four times.
Trailing 4-1, the Jets (15-10) scored a run in the third on a Lily Wilmot ground out before Maura Willow singled home Sasita Knauer in the sixth to cut the Trojans lead to 4-3.
Encinal still had runners on second and third with one out, but Bottomley got a ground out and a pop out to end the threat.
The Trojans added another run in the seventh as Macauley Prickett scored on a passed ball. Prickett was 3 for 4 with, stole three bases and scored three runs.
Knauer and Willow both had two hits for the Jets.
