A burglar who removed a window screen at an apartment in the 400 block of Buena Vista Avenue and then tried to open the window fled after the resident woke up and opened the blinds to find out what was happening, police said.

The incident happened about 3:40 p.m. May 27. Another burglary was reported about 30 minutes later at an apartment on the same property, where someone entered a unit through an unlocked sliding door and stole items from inside. Burglaries were also reported about 8:40 p.m. the same day at another apartment, also in the 400 block of Buena Vista, and at an apartment in the 500 block of the street, police said. In both cases the burglar entered through a sliding door.

SATURDAY, MAY 24

  • DRUNKEN DRIVING -- Police arrested a woman, 43, on suspicion of drunken driving about 2:30 a.m. at Webster Street and Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway after officers initially contacted her because her vehicle was stopped in the road with mechanical problems. A man, 49, was also arrested on suspicion of DUI after a traffic stop about 11:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Central Avenue, police said.

  • VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle stolen from the 300 block of Central Avenue was found abandoned a short distance away with items inside that were stolen from another vehicle parked nearby. A second vehicle was also burglarized in the neighborhood, police said. It was reported at 9:45 a.m.

  • UNDER THE INFLUENCE -- A man whom officers recognized as a probationer was arrested after he showed signs of being on narcotics, police said. The man, 39, who was arrested about 5:20 p.m. in the 1600 block of Webster Street, was also in possession of suspected methamphetamine, plus he was wanted on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, police said. A 41-year-old woman was arrested minutes later in the 2500 block of Blanding Avenue, where she was allegedly found in possession of heroin. Officers initially contacted the woman because she was going through trash cans. Along with a narcotics charge, the woman faces a charge of possessing stolen property because she was carrying someone else's credit card, police said.

    SUNDAY, MAY 25

  • DRUNKEN DRIVING -- Police arrested a man, 41, on suspicion of drunken driving at 2:35 a.m. after he was involved in a traffic accident in the 2200 block of Harbor Bay Parkway.

  • DRUG POSSESSION -- Officers patrolling the Oakland-Alameda Estuary on the police boat arrested a man on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine after they contacted him aboard a derelict vessel. The man, 46, who was arrested about 11:20 a.m., was also allegedly in possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE -- Police recovered a vehicle stolen from the Fruitvale BART station in the 2900 block of Main Street at 5:15 p.m.

  • DRUNKEN DRIVING -- Police arrested a man, 71, on suspicion of drunken driving about 7:10 p.m. after a collision in the 600 block of Central Avenue.

    MONDAY, MAY 26

  • RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE -- Police recovered a vehicle stolen in San Bernardino County about 1:45 a.m. in the 200 block of Brush Street. Police also said a vehicle was reported stolen at 11:15 a.m. in the 300 block of Tideway Drive.

  • DRUNKEN DRIVING -- Police arrested a man, 51, on suspicion of drunken driving after a traffic stop about 11:50 a.m. at Grand Street and Otis Drive.

  • PETTY THEFT -- A woman, 22, faces a petty theft charge after she was caught shoplifting at Nob Hill on Blanding Avenue, police said. It occurred about 3:10 p.m. Another woman, 61, and a 53-year-old man were arrested at the store about 10 minutes later after they also allegedly shoplifted items.

  • DRUG PARAPHERNALIA -- A 34-year-old man whom officers contacted because he was sleeping on a bench in the 500 block of Alameda South Shore Center was drunk and carrying drug paraphernalia, police said. The man was arrested about 6 p.m.

  • BURGLARY -- A burglary was reported at 8:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Shorepoint Court.

  • DRUG POSSESSION -- Police arrested a man and woman after a traffic stop about 10:45 p.m. in the 1900 block of Park Street. The woman, 39, was driving with a suspended license, while the man, 42, was in possession of suspected narcotics, police said. The man was also wanted on an outstanding felony warrant.

    TUESDAY, MAY 27

  • DRUG POSSESSION -- Officers found suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia when they searched a man's car after a background check during a traffic stop revealed that he was on probation, police said. It happened about 1:30 a.m. in the 1800 block of Everett Street, where the 55-year-old man was arrested. A cyclist, 21, was also found in possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia after an officer stopped him because he was riding the bicycle at night without a headlight, police said. The man, who was arrested about 10:55 p.m. in the 1900 block of Park Street, also faces a charge of possessing less than one ounce of marijuana.

  • VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen about 10:10 p.m. in the 2200 block of Alameda South Shore Center.

    WEDNESDAY, MAY 28

  • VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen about 7:50 a.m. in the 500 block of Flower Lane, where about 30 minutes later police recovered a vehicle that was reported stolen to BART police. Vehicles were also reported stolen about 8:20 a.m. in the 800 block of Island Drive and about 10:05 a.m. in the 2000 block of San Jose Avenue. Police recovered a stolen vehicle at 8:35 a.m. in the 3300 block of Constance Circle. Another vehicle, which was reported stolen in Oakland, was recovered about 1:50 p.m. in the 1300 block of Harbor Bay Parkway.

  • BURGLARY -- Lumber and other building supplies were reported stolen about 12:30 p.m. from a locked construction site in the 2700 block of Fifth Street in what police have classified as a burglary. A residential burglary was reported about 4:05 p.m. in the 2100 block of Buena Vista Avenue. It was not immediately known, however, if any items were stolen. A burglar also stole items from an open garage in the 3500 block of Oleander Avenue. It was reported about 2:40 p.m.
