House fires in Union City and San Leandro were quickly extinguished by Alameda County firefighters Saturday, a spokeswoman said.
Firefighters were called at 4:18 a.m. to a single-story home in the 33400 block of Eighth Street in Union City, Alameda County Fire Department spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said; the sole resident escaped safely, and firefighters knocked down the single-alarm blaze in about 20 minutes. The house was too damaged to occupy, and the resident had to find shelter elsewhere. An investigator was unable to determine the fire's cause.
Then, a 2:20 p.m. fire on the second floor of a two-story, garden-style condominium in the 300 block of Caliente Circle in San Leandro produced heavy smoke; again, firefighters put out the blaze in about 20 minutes. Knowles said the fire was under investigation later Saturday afternoon.
No injuries were reported at either fire.
