EL CERRITO -- A 28-year-old man is wanted for severely beating an 89-year-old woman during a carjacking Sunday, police said.

The woman picked up her medications at the CVS store at 10650 San Pablo Ave. and was inside her Toyota Camry around 1:55 p.m. when the man suddenly attacked, police said.

The man -- later identified as Terrance James Hardy -- punched the woman, pulled her from the car, and drove away, authorities said.

The beating broke the woman's collar bone and ribs, and injured her face and torso. She was hospitalized but is expected to survive.

Police have issued a warrant for Hardy's arrest on charges of carjacking and elder abuse causing great bodily injury. Hardy, who is on parole, is considered dangerous, according to police.
