SAN LEANDRO -- A standoff with a San Leandro man who barricaded himself inside his home ended peacefully Thursday after the suspect surrendered to police.
San Leandro police responded to a home in the 1800 block of Washington Avenue about 3:20 p.m. Thursday in response to a domestic violence assault. But the resident, identified as 53-year-old Victor De La Cruz, refused to come out and revealed that two other people were also inside the home. Police also learned that De La Cruz may be armed and had two outstanding felony warrants for his arrest, including for carjacking.
A tactical operations team was able to get two of the residents out of the home before negotiations with De La Cruz continued. After speaking with a hostage negotiator De La Cruz came out of the house and was taken into custody without incident. He was booked in Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of felony domestic violence and the two outstanding arrest warrants.
