Tracy Morgan is improving, nearly a week after a car wreck on the New Jersey Turnpike killed one and left Morgan and two others in critical condition.

A Morgan spokesman said Friday the comedian "continues to show signs of improvement. His medical team remains optimistic that his recovery is progressing."

Morgan, 45, was nearly killed in the 1 a.m. crash last Saturday while he and friends returned from a Delaware comedy show. The New York Daily News reports Morgan's fiancee, Megan, has remained by his side in a New Brunswick, N.J., hospital and "is relaying the countless good wishes and prayers that his family, friends and fans have been sending their way," she said, in a statement said.

Morgan's friend and collaborator James (Uncle Jimmy Mack) McNair was killed in the crash, allegedly caused by a Walmart tractor-trailer driven by Kevin Roper rear-ended the comedians' Mercedes limo.

Charged with vehicular manslaughter, Roper, who pleaded not guilty, is free on $50,000 bail. Prosecutors say Roper may have gone more than 24 hours without sleep before the crash.

The statement from Morgan's camp also reported improvement in the conditions of other victims: Jeffrey Millea, of Shelton, Conn., who was injured in the crash along with comedian Ardie Fuqua Jr., of Jersey City. A third person, Harris Stanton, has been released from the hospital.
