SAN LEANDRO -- A woman who heard the sound of glass breaking in a gated parking lot helped police to arrest a suspected burglar and car thief last weekend, police said Monday.
Keith Gibbs, 23, of Oakland, was slated to be arraigned later Monday on charges of burglary, possessing burglary tools and vehicle theft. Police collared Gibbs around 9 p.m. Saturday after the woman called 911 and told the dispatcher about the glass breaking and other details that she observed, San Leandro police Lt. Randall Brandt said.
When officers arrived at the scene, the 1100 block of East 14th Street, they found Gibbs standing near a vehicle with a broken window, holding bolt cutters, Brandt said. Gibbs reportedly claimed the vehicle was his, but a police investigation determined it did not belong to him.
Police booked Gibbs into Santa Rita Jail, where he was being held Monday in lieu of $50,000 bail.
