SAN JOSE -- Police are on the lookout for a car that hit a man Sunday night while he was crossing Capitol Expressway and then took off.

Around 9:30 p.m., San Jose officers responded to Capitol Expressway just north of Silver Creek Road for reports of a man that was struck by a car, said Officer Albert Morales.

Morales said the pedestrian, who has not been identified, was walking eastbound across the major thoroughfare when he was hit by either a black Honda Pilot or Ford Explorer.

The suspect car fled the scene before police arrived, and the man was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Morales said the man remained hospitalized Tuesday afternoon.
