Trainees took part in the PowerPathway Field Day at the PG&E Oakport Service Center in Oakland, Calif., on Wednesday, June 18, 2014. Students showcased skills learned during 24 weeks of unpaid pre-apprentice training. The field day is an opportunity for hiring managers, contractors and partners to meet the class and learn more about the nationally acclaimed PG&E program. The current class is comprised of 23 students from the Bay Area, including Oakland, San Francisco, the North Bay and San Jose. The course, which is partnered with the Cypress Mandela Training Center in Oakland, provides a head start in skills needed in the construction and utility world, specifically gas-related jobs, as well as an education in required safety skills.
