HAYWARD -- Police dogs are searching for armed carjackers who took officers on a high-speed chase from Fremont into downtown Hayward and then bailed on foot.

According to BART police, the carjacking took place at 1:37 p.m. at the Fremont BART station.

Shortly after that report, Fremont police noticed the stolen vehicle traveling north on Mission Boulevard toward Union City and followed it through Union City side streets into Hayward, said Fremont police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques.

During the pursuit, the vehicle hit another vehicle near Moreau Catholic High School on Mission Boulevard. No was injured, Bosques said.

At one point police stopped the pursuit after they lost sight of the vehicle near Mission Boulevard and Jackson Street due to heavy traffic.

But a little later, residents pointed officers toward B Street and Hayward police arrived to assist.

Police say the carjackers ditched the vehicle near 3rd and C streets and ran away.

It was not immediately known how many car thieves were involved or if anyone was injured in the carjacking.
