BERKELEY -- Police are investigating a sexual assault early last Sunday and need the public's help with the case.
At 2 a.m. on Sunday police said a woman in her early 30s reported she was assaulted on a small side street west of the 2300 block of Telegraph Avenue. Police are not releasing the exact location to protect the victim and because the case remains under investigation.
The victim told police she was walking alone when she was attacked from behind, knocked to the ground and sexually assaulted by an unknown man.
Police described the man as mixed race in his 30s, about 6 feet tall with a muscular to heavy build, short hair and wearing a jacket. A complete description of the suspect was not available.
Investigators are working on this case, reviewing evidence, seeking witnesses, and searching for any additional evidence.
Officers have stepped up patrols in the area and the UC Berkeley Police Department has been advised of the crime.
