OAKLAND -- Firefighters battled a blaze in the garage beneath an Oakland apartment building Monday evening, a fire battalion chief said.
The fire was reported at an apartment building in the 2200 block of 48th Avenue near Vicksburg Avenue at 5:21 p.m., Oakland fire Battalion Chief Lisa Baker said.
One unit in the building was occupied when firefighters arrived and the residents were evacuated without injury, she said.
The garage fire was contained by firefighters within about 10 minutes of their arrival, Baker said.
No vehicles were inside the garage at the time of the fire and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation, Baker said.
