SAN LEANDRO -- Suspects posing as employees of a tree trimming company scammed an elderly resident out of a slew of jewelry this week, police said.
A resident who lives on the 500 block of Pearson Avenue near Johnson Street told police that two men knocked on her door about 4 p.m. Wednesday and solicited her for some tree trimming, Lt. Randy Brandt said.
While one of the men spoke with the woman about the potential service, the second man sneaked into her home and stole some of her jewelry. The men were last seen driving away in a small dark-colored SUV.
Shortly after, the woman called police when she realized her home had been burglarized, Brandt said.
Police described the suspects as Latino¿, in their 20s, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall. They were casually dressed and spoke Spanish over two-way radios.
Police are asking anyone who sees suspicious activity or believes they might be a victim of a similar scam to call them at 510-577-3230 or contact the anonymous tip line at 510-577-3278.
