BEVERLY HILLS

HBO's gritty crime series, "True Detective," captured a pair of honors, including one for star Matthew McConaughey, and AMC's "Breaking Bad" was honored as The Program of the Year Saturday night at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Awards.

"True Detective" was cited for Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries and Specials, while McConaughey earned Individual Achievement in Drama for his portrayal of homicide investigator Rust Cohle.

Hosted by Terry Crews ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine") and held at the Beverly Hilton, the event was the 30th annual awards ceremony for the TCA, which is comprised of more than 220 professional TV critics and journalists from the United States and Canada.

The results were determined from votes cast by the TCA's membership, The winners represented an eclectic blend of shows and stars in 12 categories, putting the spotlight on the best of the best in comedy, drama, reality, miniseries, news, and youth programming.

It was a great night for HBO. In addition to "True Detective," the political comedy "Veep" was a double winner. The show tied with FX's critial darling, "Louie," for Outstanding Achievement in Comedy, and "Veep" star Julia Louis Dreyfus earned the top trophy in the Individual Achievement in Comedy category.
