HAYWARD -- A boy shot in the head in the city's Southgate neighborhood over the weekend remained in critical condition on Tuesday and police said they were continuing to hunt for his shooter.

Authorities were called to Del Norte Court and Oliver Drive at 8:56 p.m. on Sunday after multiple people dialed 911 to report gunfire in the area, Sgt. Ken Forkus said.

Officers found the 17-year-old Hayward boy lying in the roadway, unresponsive and with a gunshot wound to the head, Forkus said.

He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and on Tuesday remained in intensive care, Forkus said.

No arrests have been made and police have not released information about suspects or whether they think the boy was targeted or hit by a stray bullet.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police at 510-293-7034.
