BERKELEY -- Police briefly shut down both lanes of Interstate 80 Sunday morning after a man was seen running across the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP closed I-80 in both directions on Sunday at 6:19 a.m. to search for the unidentified man who witnesses say was running through lanes of traffic, Officer Eric Anderson said.

Berkeley Police caught the man near Aquatic Park and reopened lanes of traffic at 6:24 a.m., Anderson said.

It was not immediately known whether the man was arrested.
