MTV wants Beyonce -- without Jay Z -- to open its Video Music Awards on Aug. 24.

Are we sure that wasn't Beyonce's idea?

Insiders at a Columbia Records listening event told The New York Daily News that MTV desperately wants Beyonce to perform a medley from her latest record, "Beyonce."

"Bey is going to be all over the show," one source reportedly said. "MTV is still working everything out, but they want her to open the show with a big production, which has still not been announced."

It has now.

Columbia and MTV are supposedly working together to convince the star to make video promos teasing the possible performance.

"It's still being worked out," the source told the Daily News. "Everyone at Columbia is scurrying around to make things happen. But judging by the amount of awards she was nominated for and her past history with the show announcing her pregnancy, it's a pretty safe bet."

Beyonce has been nominated for eight awards, including Video of the Year for "Drunk in Love," her collaboration with husband Jay Z. Rappers Iggy Azalea and Eminem each were nominated for seven awards.

Beyonce announced her pregnancy with daughter Blue Ivy at the 2011 VMAs, by opening her jacket and rubbing her belly, while her husband high-fived Kanye West.

"MTV wants her and they want her solo," the insider said.

The Daily News also reported that Beyonce and Jay Z will soon release a statement addressing the rumors that their marriage is over. A source told the publication it's now strictly a "business relationship."
